About Us
Turtles Nursery is situated on Endell Street in the heart of Covent Garden, located right in the middle of one of London’s busiest and most vibrant areas.
We support families from a wonderfully diverse mix of cultural, linguistic and professional backgrounds. This diversity is embraced and celebrated at every possible opportunity.
We use our urban environment creatively, making the most of what we have and turning it into something truly special, every corner of the nursery has been thoughtfully considered, to make it feel inspiring, welcoming and full of possibility. A real ‘home from home’
Our Staff Team
Leading our Team are Manager Lola Berry and Deputy Manager Daisy Morris. Their leadership sets the tone for everything.
Lola leads with warmth, openness and a clear vision.
She is passionate about the Curiosity Approach and is currently working towards an accreditation to deepen and strengthen this practice even further.
Lola’s door is always open, ideas are shared freely and every team member’s voice matters. That culture of respect has created a close, motivated team who work seamlessly together with one shared goal: giving children the very best start in life.
Daisy complements this perfectly. She brings calm reassurance, strong organisation and a deep understanding of child development. She mentors staff with patience and clarity, modelling high-quality interactions and ensuring safeguarding and welfare standards remain consistently strong.
Both Lola and Daisy balance their leadership responsibilities with hands-on involvement in the rooms. they are present at drop-off and pick-up, available for conversations with families and fully engaged in day-to-day nursery life. Their visibility builds trust and creates a strong sense of community.
The Curriculum
The practice at Turtles is consistently thoughtful and truly child-led.
Planning begins with children’s interests and individual stages of development.
Our carefully chosen resources promote independence, creativity and curiosity, all in line with the Curiosity Approach.
Communication and language are exceptionally strong and we engage children in genuine back-and-forth conversations, introducing rich vocabulary and encouraging shared thinking throughout the day.
Stories, songs and imaginative play occur naturally into routines.
For children with EAL, we work closely with families to celebrate home languages and cultures, ensuring every child feels seen, heard and respected.
Safeguarding and wellbeing are of paramount importance to us, policies and training are robust and regularly updated in line with any EYFS or OFSTED updates.
The staff really know each child as an individual and support emotional regulation through consistent routines, gentle guidance and warm, responsive relationships. As a result the children feel secure and develop the confidence to explore, take risks and grow. Colour Monsters are a big part of helping children name their feelings!
Inclusion is an extremely important part of life at our Nursery. Children with additional needs are supported through early identification and close collaboration with external professionals. Every child is recognised as an individual, and differences are celebrated as strengths.
Being based in Covent Garden offers rich learning opportunities. Children regularly explore local spaces such as Coram’s Fields, Phoenix Gardens and Trafalgar Square, connecting their learning to the world around them. Phoenix Gardens often collaborates on projects and supports the nursery in gathering resources for the Curiosity Approach accreditation.
Community & Parent Relations
We have a very active and involved Parent Ambassador team. During the year, families are welcomed into the nursery for celebrations and cultural events that reflect the diversity of the community. These gatherings create meaningful connections and shared experiences. We also have strong links with the London School of Economics, reflecting its place within the wider Covent Garden community.
Turtles host regular twilight sessions where parents can come together with staff to discuss topics such as school readiness, toilet training, sleep routines, weaning, fussy eating, behaviour guidance and supporting children with EAL. These sessions are practical, supportive and shaped around real family needs.
Our commitment to community extends far beyond its walls. We regularly fundraise for Great Ormond Street Hospital and other charities, helping children begin to understand empathy and kindness from an early age. Lola and Daisy even took part in a GLOW walk to raise awareness for mental health, demonstrating their commitment to wellbeing for staff, families and the wider community.
All events are celebrated at Turtles Nursery and we often collaborate with small local businesses to share the joy! From donating food to food banks, visiting the Soho Fire brigade, organising Pumpkins parties and Easter Egg hunts, we use any opportunity to celebrate within the local community!
During the Covid pandemic, the team showed remarkable resilience and compassion. Families were offered flexibility, reassurance and emotional support when we needed it most. That dedication has continued, with a strong focus on rebuilding confidence and prioritising children’s emotional wellbeing.
Staff Training
Professional development is a high priority to us and Staff are supported to gain further qualifications and bring new ideas into the setting. Apprentices, volunteers and international interns are welcomed warmly and one of our team members even transformed the garden into a thriving growing space where children plant fruits and vegetables, learning about responsibility, nature and healthy eating through hands-on experience.
