Sunflowers

Today in Owls we looked at sunflowers 🌻 The children learnt some interesting facts such as how they can grow up to 9m high and how they follow the sun throughout the day. Owls shared their knowledge of how bees pollinate the sunflowers! The children all tried tasting sunflower seeds. They thought they were "crunchy", "yummy" and "yucky!" We then looked at a picture of Vincent Van Gogh's famous sunflower painting. We discussed the colours and brush strokes. The children did observational painting, just like Van Gogh, looking at the vase of fresh sunflowers and painting what they see. Outside in the garden the children decorated cut out petals with all things yellow - leaves, dried flowers, ribbon and paper. We put these together to make beautiful big sunflowers to display in nursery 🌻🌻🌻
